Qad Kafaani Poem in Chinese

Assalaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullah

Assalaamu'laikum wa rahmatullah

Heart Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom

Assalaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullah

 Ouyang Xun 635: Tang Dynasty

Zhao Mengfu 1254-1322: Yuan Dynasty

This one has nothing to do with Islamic teachings. It's simple name is only Heart Sutra. It is lord Buddha's teaching to his disciple, Shariputra. I just found that the calligraphy is very nice but I did not have time to practice calligraphy. I tried to translate few wisdom from Imam Shafi'ie rahimahullah as well as other Imams in Chinese. It's only for my personal use and a tribute to all Imams. Just think that it would be beneficial in the future.

What is Heart Sutra?

It is a discourse of lord Buddha Gautama with his disciple known as Brahman Shariputra. In this sense I talk about lord Buddha as a teacher or guru among teachers, a historical figure and not some kind of golden idol as what would be understood by some brothers or sisters. It talks about the experience of liberation of the the enlightened being of compassion known as the lord who looks down resulted from the insight gained while engaged in deep meditation to awake the faculty of wisdom. This insight refers to basic emptiness of all phenomena, five senses of human existence known as panchaskandha.

Panchaskandha are............................

1. Rupa - form
2. Vedanaa - feeling
3. Samskara - volitions
4. Sammjhna - perceptions
5. Vignyaana - consciousness

This is my experience as a Buddhist boy. I learned to shut all of perceptions through this Sutra when I encounter something which I do not know or never experienced. It is also influencing me until today and I do not know whether it is sinful or not because it is not easy for a revert to totally forget previous experience. I am also afraid if my faith is not really a faith because the God would surely condemn me into the torments. I am already tormented in the world and I wish the hereafter would be peaceful abode for me. I only regard lord Buddha as a teacher when I revert to Islam by heart but I do not come to the extent of regarding him as a prophet or messenger of the God because it is never mentioned in the Glorious Quran and Sunnah. This sutra taught everyone to avoid speculation so I do not really like to speculate.

The volitions refer to what we badly want or desired. It teaches to leave everything behind or release desires because it causes us pain in term of psychological. My ex-colleague, Amir also told me about psychological problem would lead to physical health being deteriorated because he also experienced that. Yesterday, I talked with him through text messages while silently tears flowing down my eyes in the library researching for thesis. He told me to create something nice in my mind if I feel annoyed. Create anything that would make us happy even if we have no nice experience and stop looking at what we do not like or makes us suffocate.

It suddenly brought me to the memory of reciting this sutra. I began to think that what I am trapped now is related to volitions which causes me pain. However, as a Muslim we must also remember the God is with us and that His divine pre-destiny is apart of His wisdom. We must be confidence in His sudden assistance and pray to Him without feeling tired of His Mercy. Perhaps this sutra is a precaution to avoid from pain. I would elaborate it longer until the Aryasthanga Marg (Noble Path) and Chattwari Ariyasattiyani (Four Noble Truths) if I linger more in this topic, hehehe. So, this is some general knowledge for fellow brothers and sisters in faith. May the God bless my brothers and sisters in faith and in humanity.

Sealed with prayers for mercy, peace, and love, amin!

Assalaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullah

A bit secular post, hahaha. Never learn Chinese formally at school but I understood this poem, haha. I think modern Chinese sometimes is blurry in my head because we developed our version of Chinese here despite of other Chinese communities surrounding us who also have their own kind of Chinese. Sometimes I just use Chinese in writing but speaking in other language like Japanese do, haha. Even in certain extent, I didn't speak Chinese to avoid dialectical problem while other counter-speaker is still speaking in Chinese. My ex-colleague, Amir doesn't like Chinese too. He thinks that Chinese speakers only mingles around them and not so smart (look pathetic). However, this pathetic guy was also his classmate and his homie (I am also his fellow Kedah compatriot who speaks in Kedah Malay). Sometimes I just speak Chinese to make sure fellow Chinese friends feel comfortable with themselves and respecting them.

Hurmm, listening to the poem actually made me think that when we meet people around, we will also have to say farewell. I actually hate the fact that we just know everyone for a while and later go on separate ways after we introduce ourselves to each other, that's why I feel difficult to make friend with others if the time is so short because I am not an easy friend nor easily making friend with people around. Perhaps this poet also feels the same :'( However life is short. It's a test for everyone. Ya Allah, wa malas nak pi kelas isokk (I am lazy to go for class tomorrow, dear Lord)!

Sealed with prayers for mercy, peace, and love, amin!

Free Circulation Materials in Chinese Anyone?

Peace,

I had found some free circulation books and leaflets at the mosque in our vicinity last Tuesday. I took some of them and managed to get two small English books and two small Chinese books about Islam. They are just simple reading stuffs and I had already took many of them when I visit mosques under JAKIM (Malaysian Islamic Development Department) authority. The first book with blue cover is with the title "Prophet Muhammad the Leader of Human."

I don't really take heed on English materials because I know I can get many of them without any problem. So on goes to Malay version of those materials. I'm just concerned on the stuffs in Chinese and if possible Tamil but I guess Muslim Tamil (Indian) community already have strong foundation for religious reading materials since most of them could speak in Malay. Once they arrived in Malaysia old days, they established mosques for their community and religious schools for their kids. They could teach religious studies with Tamil to their younger generation.

I had seen a Muslim  Tamil student showing me his Fiqhi (Islamic Jurisprudence) exercise book  written in Tamil which is his mother tongue when I attend a tution class for my PMR exam. Tution, a classic belief by most of parents back then that it could help their child excel in exam, hahaha. Back to the issue, how about Muslim Chinese community? Chinese Muslim community are like in no existence in Malaysia although they exist.

I have experience with both Muslim Chinese and Muslim Indians in Malaysia. Muslim Indians don't really have problem with their religious and community activities. But Muslim Chinese in Malaysia do encounter problems. I read some Muslim Chinese blogs and they provides informations about reading materials.

My sister had a Muslim Chinese friend too during our good old days in Cheras. We live in the Sri Sabah flat, the residence of the paupers in Cheras of KL side. Its MCA parliament member was Dato' Seri Chen Zhaihe, I guess. The Muslim Chinese family with the surname Lee whom son was my sister's classmate ran a tea shop in the Cheras Municipal Market. We  always had our breakfast and buying drinks there. I don't know whether the shop is still operating or not.

At that time I did not really care about people's religion so I don't know that they are Muslims just like us and also are Cantonese. At that time when I was a kid until my youth time, I wasn't really sure about what is my religion, I was leaning toward Buddhism principles without any dependence to God. People use to say about indoctrination process when we were kids, but I guess it doesn't work to me when I was a kid. I found my own path in 2003/2004 when I could think myself and of course with the guidance of Lord God.

I guess I will have to go to Malaysian Muslim Chinese Association or the Islamic Development Department applying the materials for myself too.Maybe I could get some serious materials rather than basic ones because I had read those basic materials given to me by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during my pilgrimage with my mom to Holy Land in the end of 2004. They gave us Indonesian stuffs. We don't speak Indonesian but  we speak Northern Malay or Southern Thai dialect interchangeably. I had asked them to give me English version because I can't really understand Indonesian and they don't have Chinese materials with them during our departure to Medina el-Monawwara because they don't expect Chinese speakers to be in majority Malay speakers Malaysian jama'a.

I will save the story when I talk with Muslim brothers and sisters from Gansu and Xinjiang during Hajj season in Holy Land. At that time my fluency in Chinese is not affected like now because now I had mixed with Malay majority speaking people. Until at some point I have to avoid speaking in Chinese in the public as to avoid being  a subject of ridicule by Malay fellows in my hostel during my bachelor degree time. People around  in the Holy Land like those from India and Pakistan feel weird seeing that I wear Malaysian wrist band on my hand while others are from China and we talked in Chinese.

May Allah forgive us our sins either it is intentional or unintentional. Bless us O Lord of Universe grant us Your love, amin!
